About the Event

Join us November 13th at 5:30 pm (ET) for a special gala at Center for DesignPhiladelphia, 1218 Arch Street, Philadelphia,PA 19107.

Imagine a world in which a diagnosis of dementia no longer sentences individuals and families to lives of silent desperation and isolation, darkened by social stigma. Imagine that it comes instead with the assurance “you can live well, creatively, and joyfully, and keep connecting with others, and we will help you to do just that.”

On November 13, we will be celebrating the power of joyful interactions around the arts to enhance the lives of people affected by dementia; and we will be honoring Dr. Cathy Verrier Piersol, PhD, OTR/L, FAOTA, FNAP, Professor and Chair, Department of Occupational Therapy, and Director, Jefferson Elder Care, for her extraordinary partnership, collaboration, and support of the ARTZ Philadelphia community since 2018.

Dr. Cathy Piersol is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Occupational Therapy in the College of Rehabilitation Sciences at Thomas Jefferson University. With a career spanning over four decades, Dr. Piersol has been a dedicated practitioner, educator, and researcher, focusing on optimizing clients’ participation in meaningful occupations, educating future occupational therapists, and developing interventions that enhance activity engagement and quality of life for elders and their care partners. Through Jefferson Elder Care, which she co-founded and directs, Cathy has collaborated with ARTZ Philadelphia for nearly eight years, sharing a mutual dedication to enhancing the quality of life and well-being of people living with dementia and their care partners.
