In this special ARTZ Notes program, musician and composer Paul Giess will guide us in using music and sound loops — short samples of music or sound that are repeated or “looped” — to create our very own musical composition together. Loops can be used to create almost any style of music and can even include recordings made at home or non- musical elements, such as spoken words. In this workshop, ARTZ Notes participants will get to choose which musical elements we will use in our piece.
Paul Giess is a trumpet player, music maker and educator living in Philadelphia. Paul’s musical practice is rooted in the jazz tradition but his taste is adventurous, as he looks for ways to bring new perspective to old ideas.
