ARTZ Mentioned in First Year Reflection from Sarah Ralston Foundation

In 2023, ARTZ Philadelphia received a General Operating Support Grant from the Sarah Ralston Foundation in its inaugural year. The Foundation is the only organization in Philadelphia that exclusively funds nonprofits geared toward the elderly and it granted a total of $2 Million during its inaugural year.

A press release reflecting back on the Foundation’s first year features a story shared by ARTZ Philadelphia founder and executive director Susan Shifrin that embodies our mission-driven commitment to serving people at all points in their journeys with dementia and to learning from our constituents every step of the way.

We… asked the group to unravel a knitted swatch of yarn.  One of the tensest, most withdrawn members of the group suddenly grabbed the yarn and started to unwind. Two weeks later he was painting and specifically asking for yellow paint. There is no such thing as someone who is unreachable.
