ARTZ Philadelphia one of three national organizations addressing the needs of caregivers to receive Family Caregiver Alliance Award

ARTZ Philadelphia is the 2017 awardee of the Rosalinde Gilbert Innovations in Alzheimer’s Disease Caregiving Legacy Award in the areas of Policy and Advocacy.

The award celebrates the ARTZ @ Jeff initiative: an arts and dementia mentoring initiative that was piloted by ARTZ Philadelphia at Thomas Jefferson University. The program pairs medical and health professions students with mentors who are living with dementia. For six to eight weeks, students get to know their mentors as people, first: through arts-based interactions, one-on-one conversations and facilitated breakout sessions. As they build mutual trust and respect, mentors share with their students their own experiences of living with dementia.
