Registration open for 2019 Caregiving Conference
“Loosening the Caregiving Knot” is a one-day conference for family caregivers. Like all Nancy’s House retreats, it is “a day to focus on what you need to find your own path.”
Nancy’s House and ARTZ Philadelphia share a commitment to enhancing quality of life for care partners. Nancy’s House, a 501c3, has a vision “to create a community of caring and well-being for all family caregivers.” ARTZ Philadelphia will offer an ARTZ Café for Care Partners in May in collaboration with the non profit and wanted to share this opportunity to attend a one-day conference with Nancy’s House. Loosening the Caregiving Knot offers workshops and resources for care partners to offer information, ways to take care of yourself, and community resources. Read on for the organization’s description of the event and information about how to register:
“Nancy’s House will host its second conference for caregivers on Saturday, May 18, 2019. The conference will be held at The Science History Institute (formerly known as The Chemical Heritage Foundation), 315 Chestnut Street, Philadelphia, PA 19106 from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm. Continental breakfast, beverages all day, and lunch are included. 75 caregivers are expected to attend, with room for 15 care recipients to be accommodated in a staffed activities room.
Nancy’s House provides comprehensive respite for family caregivers, creating the opportunities to learn self-care skills in a community of support. This conference is an extension of that mission, and is designed to balance general information and self-care. Nine workshops will each be offered twice throughout the day, and attendees will be able to go to four of them. Information every caregiver needs (like what financial pieces do you need to have in place, or how to keep your home from becoming a mini-institution) and workshops just to feel better (like yoga and stress-reducing guided imagery). Plus a very special workshop by tile artist Karen Singer: “Create Your Own Touchstone,” your own personal tile that reminds you who you are and to take care of yourself.
A continental breakfast, sponsored by Covenant Bank, and lunch are included in the registration fee. Coffee and tea will be available all day, thanks to our beverage station sponsors, Crossroads Hospice and Palliative Care and Interim Health Care.
The activities room will be staffed by nurses and will have its own schedule of activities. Movement therapist, Susan Chase, who was at last year’s Nancy’s House conference, will be back. Space for the Activities Room is limited (maximum: 15) and will be given on a first-come, first-served basis. Please let us know if you will need accessible entry to the building. Contact Elissa at elissa@nancys-house.org for information.”
