“The Museum as Experience” Featured on The Arc Blog
Arc Humanities Press recently featured on their blog a volume edited by ARTZ Founder and director Susan Shifrin, The Museum as Experience. The blog post discusses the book’s exploration of the ways museums can become more human-centered, including methods pioneered by ARTZ. Examining new models for learning and engaging that prioritize the inclusive and experiential, the book charts a path forward for museums that aim to become more directly involved in their communities.
In one essay featured in the book, contributor Bryan Stevenson, founder of the Equal Justice Initiative, The Legacy Museum, and the National Memorial for Peace and Justice, reflects on the evolving role of museums and their place in contemporary society:
And so if we can create museums that provide experiences that model things for people, that help them live, help them navigate complexity, help them overcome, help them get past trauma and struggle, then I can think of nothing more important we can do.
